Praised as having a 'resonant and bodied sound', Suzanne Grogan is an emerging young soprano quickly making her mark in the operatic world. As Rosalinda in New England Conservatory's Die Fledermaus, she 'delivered impeccable solos and perfectly ennunicated speaking parts'. -The Boston Music Intelligencer. The Boston Arts Examiner claimed she had 'the perfect balance of poised and indignant... and her powerful tone, which rang vibrantly through the part's wide range, drenched the double-edged lyrics in irony.”

 

This season, she will be joining Shreveport Opera where she will be the Soprano in Residence for the 2015-16 season. This past October, she performed the role of Frasquita and covered Micaëla in Bizet's Carmen. In February, she will be performing the role of Josephine in HMS Pinafore, and in April she will be performing the role of Kitty Hart in Dead Man Walking.

 

Ms. Grogan is well known for her concert work, as well as on the operatic stage. This past winter, Ms. Grogan performed the Soprano Solo in Händel's Messiah in Columbus, Ohio and in Shreveport, Louisiana. This past Novermber, she performed the Soprano Solo in Mozart's Credo Mass in C Major with the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra. In 2014, Ms. Grogan performed the Soprano Solo in Beethoven’s 9th symphony with the New England Philharmonia in Boston’s Jordan Hall under the baton of Hugh Wolff. Ms. Grogan has performed in contest winner concerts with both the Pontiac Oakland Symphony and the Vermont Philharmonic

 

In 2014, Ms. Grogan was a winner of the Michigan District "Encouragement Award" for the Metropolitan Opera National  Council Auditions, and was a Finalist in the MetroWest Opera Young Artist competition. Ms. Grogan received her Master's of Music from New England Conservatory under the renowned voice teacher Patricia Misslin. While at New England Conservatory, Ms. Grogan performed the roles of Rosalinda (Die Fledermaus) and Suzel (L'Amico Fritz). She received her Bachelor of Music from Oakland University under the instruction of Edie Diggory, where she won the David Daniel’s Young Artist Concerto Competition, was a recipient of the Hollingsworth Fund, and received the Vocal Performance MaTilDa Award for Outstanding Undergraduate in Voice. In 2012, she performed the role of Despina in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte under the baton of Steven Byess. In 2011, she attended the Bel Canto Institute in Florence, Italy where she was awarded both the Performance Award and the Orchestral award. Through these awards, she was granted a month of private coachings with Jane Klaviter (Bel Canto Institute founder; Metropolitan Opera prompter and Assistant Conductor) to prepare her for her featured recitals throughout New York and a concert with the Vermont Philharmonic under the baton of Lou Kosmo. Ms. Grogan has worked with artists including Stephen Lord, Marilyn Horne, William Burden, Jane Eaglen, Jerome Shannon, Nadine Washington, Joshua Major, Robert Morrison, Eva-Hess Thaysen, Michael Strauss, Damien Francoeur-Kryznek, John Paul White among many others.
